HONORED ALUMNI; DR. AMANDA ORME DNP, APRN, FNP-C, CPNP-AC

Dr. Amanda D. Orme (BS'98, MS '05) was the 2024 recipient of the BYU Homecoming Alumni Achievement Award for BYU College of Nursing. This is a prestigious honor given annually to BYU alumni who have made a positive difference both in their profession and their community. Dr. Orme certainly fits the bill; she has worked at Primary Children's Hospital for 25 years and has had a positive influence on hundreds of patients, families, colleagues, and nursing students. Currently, she serves as the Advanced Practice Director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the hospital. Her work is characterized by courage and compassion. In October 2024, during Homecoming Week, Dr. Orme shared insights from her personal nursing journey in a presentation to students and faculty entitled "Inspiring the Journey to Nursing Leadership."

SPEED NURSEWORKING

BYU College of Nursing hosted a Speed Nurseworking event in October 2024 for nursing alumni and students. The goal was to inform students about some of the amazing careers, internships, and professional opportunities available to them. Event attendees gathered around tables to enjoy dinner together. Then, nursing students were given time to move to different tables and discuss their careers with nursing alums. The evening was a success, and many students left with a better idea of their desired career path and renewed confidence to pursue it. Several alumni commented on what they enjoyed about the event:
"I loved meeting the students and talking with them about their goals and interests. It was so fun to be with them!"
"I was able tot connect a student with others who work in their area of interest so they can determine their next steps."
"It was so fun to see the eagerness of these new students and inspire them to make their own lives better and make a difference in their patients' lives."

GLOBAL AND POPULATION HELATH NURSING KITS

In March 2025, nursing students and alumni gathered in the Spencer W. Kimball Tower to assemble newborn and oral hygiene kits. These supplies were sent with fourth- and fifth-semester using students on their Global and Populations Health Nursing Clinical Practicums in the spring and distributed throughout the world from Ecuador to Zambia. Nursing Alum Chapter Chair Tiffany Noss (BS '97) said, "I just love the camaraderie. We have alumni here with students working hand in hand and for the same purpose. I think that's the goal of our alumni association: to keep alumni connected to the College of Nursing and supporting the students."
This was the first year that the Nursing Alumni Board prepared an Amazon Wishlist to gather the materials for the kits. Alumni could order any item on the list and have it sent directly to the college. This allowed more alumni than ever before to participate from across the globe. Many alumni expressed how grateful they were to donate and help those in need.

NURSING ALUMNI LUNCH DURING BYU WOMEN'S CONFERENCE

On May 1, 2025 BYU College of Nursing alumni gathered on the lawn near the Kimball Tower to share lunch and connect with each other during BYU Women's Conference. This event allowed for classmates to reunite, exchange memories and experiences with fellow alumni, and network. The event was attended by approximately 50 alumni, representing graduating classes from 1958 through 2024.
