From the Dean 2025

For 150 years, Brigham Young University has stood as a beacon of light—illuminating lives through faith, study, and inspired service. From August 2025 to June 2026, we commemorate this extraordinary legacy with the university’s anniversary theme: “That light groweth brighter and brighter . . . that all may be edified of all” (Doctrine and Covenants 50:24; 88:122).

In the spirit of this celebration of light, BYU College of Nursing is honoring the milestone through our own theme: “Ray by Ray: Becoming Beacons of Christlike Care.” This theme was inspired by Elder Alexander Dushku’s April 2024 general conference address, “Pillars and Rays.” He described how we gather light-filled bursts of testimony: “Here a ray and there a ray.” Our students, alumni, faculty, and staff each gather rays of light as their understanding of the Healer’s art deepens and their ability to practice it expands. Together, these rays become a radiant beacon—a bright light offering compassion, hope, and healing to a world in need of care.

As part of this celebration, BYU will host a variety of uplifting events, including Homecoming Week, Nights of Light, Beacons of Light projects, and a culminating worldwide fireside. These moments will invite us to reflect, rejoice, and renew our shared commitment to the missions of BYU and the College of Nursing.

The Share Your Light campaign offers one of the most meaningful ways to celebrate. Students, alumni, employees, and friends are individually invited to honor BYU’s 150th anniversary by giving 150 hours of Christlike service.

I invite you, our alumni and friends, to join us in celebrating this landmark anniversary. Wherever you are in the world, I hope you’ll find a way to connect, reflect, and serve—adding your light to this historic celebration and continuing the legacy of the Healer’s art. May this issue of Healer’s Art inspire you to go forth and serve with your own rays of light.
