BYU College of Nursing maintains an ongoing collaboration with The DAISY Foundation in acknowledging nursing educators and students who demonstrate exceptional compassion. The DAISY Foundation originated from the Barnes family's desire to commemorate the life of Patrick Barnes, who tragically passed away at just 33 years of age from complications of an autoimmune disease. To honor him, their family established DAISY, an acronym representing "Diseases Attacking the Immune System," as a means to express their gratitude to the nurses who provided care to Patrick and to honor outstanding nurses worldwide.
The College of Nursing presented a new DAISY award called the Circle of Influence Award. This allows the college to celebrate staff members who demonstrate a commitment to service rooted in compassion. This year, we are pleased to honor Nancy Salanoa with the Circle of Influence Award.
Nancy was nominated by Dr. Michael Robinson, an Assistant Teaching Professor for the College of Nursing. Dr. Robinson said, “One of the most impressive aspects of Nancy's presence within our College is her commitment to kindness, compassion, and maintaining a positive spirit. I have had the privilege of observing countless interactions with Nancy, and without exception, they have been uplifting experiences. Considering the many personal interactions Nancy and I have had; I always leave uplifted and rejuvenated – feeling more confident, comfortable, and feeling more seen and cared for. Her warmth and care leave a lasting impression on everyone she encounters, fostering an atmosphere of support and harmony.”
Dr. Robinson continued to describe Nancy’s diligent attitude and said, “In the face of stressors and challenges, Nancy consistently approaches every situation with grace and a winning smile. Her ability to maintain this warm and caring demeanor, regardless of circumstances, is truly commendable and contributes significantly to our College's positive culture.”
The College of Nursing is grateful for Nancy’s outstanding efforts and congratulates her on this achievement.
