Motivated by a desire to share the Light of Christ and serve others, Dr. Hiromi Tobe has created valuable connections between her native Japan and BYU College of Nursing.

A nursing student recently experienced the Healer's Art as she served unsheltered individuals at a local warming center.

This year, the BYU College of Nursing had three faculty members recognized at the Utah Nurse Practitioners Award Ceremony: Dr. Christine Platt, Dr. Jennifer Rigby, and Dr. Petr Ruda. The College of Nursing aims to shape skilled and compassionate nurses who strive to practice the Healer’s art. The recognized faculty members' contributions align with this mission to prepare nurses to lead with faith.

The BYU College of Nursing and The DAISY Foundation present awards to students and faculty every year honoring exceptional compassion in nursing. Recipients are nominated because of the difference they’ve made in the lives of those they teach or provide care for. This year, Professor Cynthia Johnson and nursing student Otavio Tobias (BS ’24) were honored with DAISY awards.

Dr. Marie Prothero has been appointed to the board of the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL). She joins two other board members and will serve a two-year term beginning January 1, 2025.

Led by BYU College of Nursing professors, Dr. Petr Ruda and Dr. Daphne Thomas, students shadowed in hospitals throughout the country in areas like maternity, pediatric, intensive care, and adult medical/surgical under the supervision of a licensed professional in the Czech Republic.

As part of an ongoing partnership between BYU Nursing and Moab's Grand County School District, grad students recently brought an educational dental hygiene presentation to a local elementary school.

In October, Otavio Tobias and Gabby Sutton were awarded the 2024 American Psychiatric Nursing Associations (APNA) Director’s Student Scholarship which included special recognition at the national conference and attending scholar mentoring activities. Both were two of only six undergraduates awarded from hundreds nationwide. Their win marks the first time in APNA history that two undergraduates were awarded from the same school.
