Several years ago, BYU College of Nursing Professor Brandon Thatcher noticed a pattern among his students: many were having amazing spiritual experiences with their clinical patients. Reflecting on this observation, he was inspired to investigate how and when BYU students were spiritually caring for patients. After talking with fellow faculty member Dr. Janelle Macintosh, the two began gathering data from graduating seniors and analyzing the thought process behind their spiritual care.

On October 16, as part of the BYU Alumni Achievement Award Lecture series, students and faculty were honored to hear from BYU College of Nursing alum Nicki Broby (MS ‘17).

BYU College of Nursing Professor Sondra Heaston was recently awarded the BYU Muriel Thole Teaching and Learning Faculty Fellowship.

BYU College of Nursing faculty member Dr. Matt Anderson and nursing student Lauren Thorpe each received a DAISY Award at the recent Scholarship and Professionalism Symposium in October.

This summer, a small group of BYU nursing students traveled to Japan with Dr. Ryan Rasmussen, Dr. Craig Nuttall, and Dr. Hiromi Tobe to visit the Ishikawa Prefectural Nursing University (IPNU).

On November 5, BYU College of Nursing held their annual Graduate Program Alumni Dinner, where graduate students, alumni, faculty, and their families enjoy a night of recognition and reunion. Together, they celebrated achievements and caught up with former classmates and mentors from their time in the graduate program.

During the 2025 Symposium, students had the chance to hear from Dr. Neil Peterson and three current Family Nurse Practitioner graduate program students about how to find the best job after graduation. The students, Susy Vega, DeeDee Long, and Saul Villalobos, have had diverse experiences in nursing ranging from hospital positions to working in public schools and private nursing. With their knowledge and the wisdom of hindsight, they were able to counsel current undergraduates in their search for the right career.

This spring, Professors Carly Peterson and Daphne Thomas led a group of 14 nursing students to Rishikesh, India as part of the college's worldwide Global & Population Health Nursing Clinical Practicum effort. They spent time working with professionals in the clinics and serving those living in informal housing communities.
